An Open Letter to Rodvik Linden or any Linden actually

Dear Rodvik (or any Linden who cares to answer):

The age old question regarding posting private IMs has resurfaced recently in several groups I belong to.  It would be nice to have some clarity on this topic yet again.

It is my understanding that posting of private IMs on any Second Life platform, whether its copy and paste into chat, copy to a notecard for circulation or posting in SL forums is a violation of TOS.  Is this still true? What is resolution process if TOS is violated?

If the above is true, the next question is, if a resident posts in their profile that they record IMs for possible later use and distribution,  does this get them around TOS?

If a resident post chat logs on a third party platform does this violate TOS?

Just curious.  Cause if the first part is true, alot of ppl have been violating the TOS the past few days.  just saying.

Have a lovely day.

I am pretty sure I know the answers.

    Yes

There is none. You might get a warning not to do it again, and if you keep on doing it and generating complaints, you then will get your account suspended for a period of time. Ultimately, you can be kicked out of Second Life. But SL is like court, they issue verdicts and that is it. You do not get a chance to appeal, the staff is not there to do something like this. If you are a premium member though you can discuss violations directly, But there is no way to “make good” on a violation.

    No.

    No

I can tell you right now that you cannot post any IM sent privately to you in any place in Second Life that other residents can see, or send it to anyone else. This does not apply to group IMs or chats of course. However, SL does not police external blogs or any third party platforms so if you wish you can publish this externally from Second Life. Other residents will not like this, seeing a private IM blogged in a public place is a violation of privacy.
